System Of A Down Gets One Past Censors

System Of A Down defied the current climate of conservative moral outrage over so-called broadcast "indecency" by slipping the F-word into its performance on NBC-TV's Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Although the group's first song, "B.Y.O.B.," was muted numerous times for its inclusion of the dreaded word in its lyrics, guitarist Daron Malakian managed to scream an uncensored "F*** yeah!" toward the end of the tune with the camera pointed directly at him.

"B.Y.O.B." is the first single from the band's new release, Mezmerize, which is due out on May 17.

Rumors had circulated earlier in the week that NBC had asked the band to remove the word from its lyrics, which had led in turn to System Of A Down threatening to pull out of the show.

Saturday Night Live does not use the now-standard seven-second delay, and NBC had no comment on the matter, according to the New York Daily News.

System also performed "Aerials," from its 2001 Toxicity album, without any further incident.

The performance aired after midnight, technically on Mother's Day (Sunday, May 8), but at press time, the world had not come to an end.

The band plays in New York Monday (May 9) as part of its current 10-city "guerilla" tour.

Jackson Cousin Speaks at Singer's Trial .

Testifying in the singer's child molestation trial, Rijo Jackson said the accuser's brother — another key prosecution witness — also took part in the misbehavior during visits to Michael Jackson's Neverland ranch.

The soft-spoken Rijo said that in 2003 he was with the boys in a guest unit when the brothers turned the TV to a channel showing naked women, began masturbating and suggested he do the same.

The witness said he declined and instead went to Michael Jackson's room and told him what the boys were watching on TV.

Under cross-examination by prosecutor Ron Zonen, the youth said he was scared to tell Michael Jackson about the masturbation.

He also said he spent the night in bed with Jackson.

"Did you do that often?" asked Zonen.

"Yes," said Rijo.

Jackson, 46, is accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy in February or March 2003 and plying the boy with wine. He is also charged with conspiring to hold the boy's family captive to get them to appear in a video to rebut the damaging documentary "Living With Michael Jackson."

The youngster appeared in the program with Jackson, who said he let children sleep in his bed but it was non-sexual.

The defense elicited the testimony in an apparent effort to show that the accuser engaged in sexual activity and drank alcohol on his own and without Jackson's involvement.

Judge Rodney S. Melville ruled in April that the defense could explore whether the brothers were seen masturbating at Neverland without Jackson present.

"This conduct is relevant, you honor," defense attorney Susan Yu said at the time. "Mr. Jackson is charged with masturbation and that they did in fact do it themselves and are trying to blame Mr. Jackson for what he never did is relevant."

Rijo testified that he saw the boys steal wine, go through drawers in the house and take money that belonged to a chef and to another employee.

Rijo said the wine incident occurred when an employee brought a bottle to the downstairs area of Jackson's bedroom suite while the singer was in the bathroom. He said the boys took it upstairs and the next time he saw it the cork was removed and some of the wine was gone.

Rijo's 16-year-old sister, Simone, testified earlier that she also saw the boys steal wine.

In brief testimony, Simone and Rijo's grandmother, Michelle Jackson, spoke of meeting the accuser and his siblings at Neverland and being told they were waiting to go on a trip.

She said the accuser told her, "We don't want to go to Brazil. That's my mother wants to go. We want to stay here."

The prosecution claims Jackson's associates at one point wanted to send the family on a one-way trip to Brazil to get them out of the spotlight after the documentary aired. A witness testified earlier that she arranged such a trip but canceled it after being informed that plans had changed.

In other testimony, actress Vernee Watson Johnson said she became suspicious of the accuser's mother while planning efforts to raise money to help the boy when he was battling cancer in 2000.

The former "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" star was called to support the defense claim that the mother has a history of schemes to get money from celebrities and Jackson was another target.

Johnson testified that she had been an acting teacher for the boy and was asked to help raise money for the boy but abandoned plans to help the mother "because I didn't trust her."

She said she asked the mother to set up a special bank account for donations to her son but the mother asked her to put the money in the mother's account.

Johnson was the latest celebrity witness at the trial. Actor Macaulay Culkin testified previously, and CNN's Larry King was expected to be called as early as Thursday, followed by Jay Leno next week.

Gretchen Wilson Wins at Country Music Awards

LAS VEGAS (May 18) - A brash newcomer, an Australian and a newlywed recording veteran took away the top honors at the 40th annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Gretchen Wilson won for both female vocalist and best new artist despite a sometimes in-your-face approach to the Nashville establishment.

Australian Keith Urban took male vocalist and album awards and Kenny Chesney was named entertainer of the year, just eight days after his surprise marriage to actress Renee Zellweger, who was on a movie set and missed Tuesday night's show.

Two poignant songs paid off for Tim McGraw and for Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, who took home two trophies each.

Chesney laughed off questions about his marriage after the show, saying only that he would spend his evening going to a party and doing a little gambling.

"This is very special, no doubt about that. The magnitude of it is going to hit me about 2 o'clock in the morning after a couple of drinks," he said. "I won my first award at the academy and it's always a real special place."

Urban and Wilson were stunned by their awards.

"I'm just blown away that we've come to this point," Urban said from Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he was touring. "If there's just one award that I could have picked to win, it's album of the year."

Wilson, who flaunted a no-nonsense attitude in her breakout hit "Redneck Woman," cried as she accepted the female vocalist of the year trophy, ending a three-year run for Martina McBride.

"I don't even really know what to say, except for thank you," Wilson said. Backstage, she choked up again, saying, "It's been an amazing year for me."

McGraw - nominated in a leading six categories - took top single and song honors for his hit "Live Like You Were Dying," which has special meaning for him because his father, former pro baseball pitcher Tug McGraw, died of cancer last year.

The awards show had an international flavor. Along with Urban in Belfast, camouflage-clad Toby Keith performed "As Good as I Once Was" for a crowd of clapping U.S. troops in Iraq, saying "Welcome to honky-tonk university, ya'll. We're in Baghdad."

Paisley and Krauss took video and vocal event honors for their haunting duet "Whiskey Lullaby." Paisley said he had initially been concerned that radio wouldn't play the song because of its dark themes.

"It's death and drinking. It's summertime for God's sake," he said.

Veterans Brooks & Dunn beat out several newcomers for top vocal duo, their record 19th career award.

"This far down the road, it really feels good ... they call your name out time after time," Ronnie Dunn said.

Another veteran, Faith Hill, ended a five-year absence from the awards show with a performance of "Mississippi Girl." Wearing a sheer green blouse and jeans, Hill looked rejuvenated as she pumped her fist and strutted across the stage.

Retired superstar Garth Brooks was greeted by more than 20 seconds of applause as he walked onstage to honor his friend Chris LeDoux, who died March 9 of liver cancer.

"I'm not saying you're saying this but, I've missed you too," Brooks told the crowd, doffing his cowboy hat.

The Humanitarian Award went to Neal McCoy, who said he was "tickled to death."

Trophies were presented in 12 categories over three hours, allowing the performance-driven CBS telecast from the Mandalay Bay Resort to focus as much on entertainment as awards.

The honors were determined by the 3,000 members of the California-based academy, except for the humanitarian and video awards, which were decided by fans.

Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved Lyrics

Beauty queen of only eighteen

She had some trouble with herself

He was always there to help her

She always belonged to someone else

I drove for miles and miles

And wound up at your door

I’ve had you so many times but somehow

I want more

I don’t mind spending everyday

Out on your corner in the pouring rain

Look for the girl with the broken smile

Ask her if she wants to stay awhile

And she will be loved

She will be loved

Tap on my window knock on my door

I want to make you feel beautiful

I know I tend to get insecure

It doesn’t matter anymore

It’s not always rainbows and butterflies

It’s compromise that moves us along

My heart is full and my door’s always open

You can come anytime you want

I don’t mind spending everyday

Out on your corner in the pouring rain

Look for the girl with the broken smile

Ask her if she wants to stay awhile

And she will be loved

She will be loved

I know where you hide

Alone in your car

Know all of the things that make you who you are

I know that goodbye means nothing at all

Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls

It started when we were younger and you were mine (my boo)

Now another brothers' taken over but its'
